Student Support & Well-Being:
In speaking to "student support and well-being," I am referring to multiple different contributors to district students’ overall health and development. These includes things such as mental and behavioral health, social-emotional development, unique educational needs, extra- and co-curricular interests, and the attainment of important life skills. As a board member in a district that fully supports the state's mandate to provide adequate support services to every student within our community, I also acknowledge the challenges that we face as a community in meeting these needs and opportunities. This is especially true in a time of un- and under-funded mandates, restrained resources, lean operational budgets, and the ongoing academic expectations we have for ourselves as a district and community.
I look forward to listening and partnering with our students, families, community stakeholders, and district leaders to enhance our student engagement, sense of belonging, and overall well-being through innovative strategies. I am excited to continue to advocate for responsible legislative action at the state level to address the increasing budgetary gaps in our special education funding. I will continue to support the amazing breadth and depth of extra- and co-curricular programming and offerings throughout the district.
It is only when our students feel healthy, engaged, and supported that they can fully reach their academic and life potential.
